Donate your bottles and cans to help young ACT adventurers get outdoors

Scouts ACT

This World Environment Day weekend (5-6 June), the ACT Container Deposit Scheme (ACT CDS) is calling on ACT residents to donate their eligible bottles and cans to support Scouts ACT run environmental programs for its young members.

On the weekend of 5 to 6 June, anyone returning their containers to any of the four ACT CDS cash-back depots, located at Fyshwick, Mitchell, Phillip and Belconnen, will have the option to donate some or all of their container refund to Scouts ACT.

“This is a win-win for the environment. Not only will the containers be recycled into new products, but the refunds will also help Scouts ACT’s adventurers to get outdoors and take part in activities that look after our environment,” said Danielle Smalley, CEO of Exchange for Change, coordinator of the ACT CDS.

All funds raised will support scouting activities including purchasing resources as they explore environmental issues and topics, learn how to take meaningful action, listen to talks from key speakers and work towards Champions for Nature and Plastic Tide Turners badges.

Scouts ACT Chief Commissioner Rick Goode says, “Scouts have always been highly engaged in outdoor activities, giving them a deep appreciation of the need to protect the natural world. We encourage everyone across the ACT to get onboard with container returns at cash-back depots this World Environment Day weekend, and to consider donating their refunds to support our outdoor adventures and environmental initiatives.”

The ACT CDS cash-back depots at Fyshwick, Mitchell, Phillip and Belconnen feature an automated counting system making it easy for Canberrans to return their containers and to receive their refund on the spot.

The cash-back depots are open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 3pm on Sundays.
